Department of Zoology
  • Introduction
    The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1958. It offers B.Sc Zoology with Chemistry and Botany as ancillary subjects and M.Sc Zoology programme started in 2021. Being conferred the autonomy in the year 1995; the Department had designed its own curriculum to meet the local needs and social requirements of the surroundings. The special interest of the department is to impart education to rural women and to inculcate value based professionals in Bioscience.
    All the five faculty members are doctoral degree holders. The department has a well maintained library and museum with more than 600 specimens. The well-equipped laboratory has facilities such as Laminar flow chamber, Spectrophotometer, Hot air oven, BOD Incubator, Autoclave, Trinocular Research Microscopes, Electronic balance, pH meter, PCR, Homogeniser, Water quality analysis kit, Electrophoresis Unit, Microbial colony counter etc. The Department arrange guest lectures, workshops and National level seminars to promote scientific attitude among the students and young teachers which will motivate them to take up research. Students are encouraged to take up individual projects to meet their academic requirements. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty who constantly motivates, inspires and guides the students for their personal growth and to become technically competent.

    • A certificate course in Organic Farming is offered to the students from all disciplines in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore.
