The Department of English was established in the year 1952, UG course was introduced in the year 1972 and it was upgraded as research department in 2004.The Department focuses its attention mainly on developing the Communicative Competency of the students hailing from rural background. Dedication and Devotion are the Hallmarks of the members of the department who are committed in promoting universal perception of Human values in the minds of the students through the study of Literature.

- Bridge Course is being conducted for the freshers to bridge the gap between Secondary and Tertiary Education.
- Language Lab helps the Students to enrich and enhance the LSRW Skills.
- Students are motivated towards purposeful research in the areas of remaining unexplored and their research acumen is sharpened.
- The Department offers, skill-based courses on English Language Teaching and Elective Courses such as Journalism and Mass Communication and Translation Studies to equip students with critical, conceptual and communicative skills which will enable them to work in many professions - teaching, journalism and translation.
