    The Department of Economics has been a cornerstone of academic excellence since its inception. Established in 1956, the department has consistently grown in stature, becoming a Post Graduate department in 1987 and a recognized Research department in 2003. With a team of ten highly specialised faculty members, the department offer comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing economic landscape.

  • Special Features of the Department
    • The department has been upgraded as a full-fledged research department since 2003- 2004.
    • The department is manned by ten experienced teaching staffs who are Doctorates.
    • Faculty of the department funded by UGC, ICSSR, and Malcolm Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust, Chennai for Major and Minor research projects.
    • Since 1956, 64 batches in UG and 33 batches of PG passed out from the department.
    • Curriculum has been updated based on the requirement of the industry and suggestions by subject experts.
    • Faculty is motivated to publish research articles in reputed journals with impact factor.
    • The department organized a number of guest lectures, workshops, conferences, and seminars at State/National/International with the sponsorship of UGC and Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), New Delhi.
    • Encourage the students to marketing their inherited skills through micro- entrepreneurial activities.
    • Introduced Nudge club to inculcate sustainable behaviour for healthy eating habits and promoting household electricity conservation among students. The club is also functioning as an Entrepreneurial venture by the students in the college campus twice a week.
    • Encourage the basic moral and ethical values of life among the younger generation through various awareness programs.
    • The projects at PG Level focused on socio-economic aspects as well as various Rural Developmental programs implemented in the villages which will be useful for policy makers to take decisions in the near future.
    • The department introduced its own association in the name of most influential Economists that organizes various activities and events including commemorative days.
    • Students are encouraged to participate in extra and co-curricular activities.
    • Subject-oriented content created as YouTube videos by the faculties and students and uploaded on social media.
    • Update the national and international economic events through panel discussion and group discussion.
