Sri G.V.G. Visalakshi College for Women, Udumalpet, a government-aided autonomous institution affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, was founded by the great philanthropist, Sri G.V.Govindaswamy Naidu. The college has made an indelible mark in the academic map of South India imparting quality education to rural women students since 1952 with a motto ‘Not for self, but for all’.  The institution has always remained the iconic educational edifice imparting knowledge and values fulfilling the vision and mission of our founder and educational administrators over the period of 71 years offering 23 UG and 8 PG programmes.

                  The college has been one of the pioneer institutions taking up the NAAC accreditation since 1999 and it distinguished itself with A+ grade in the fourth cycle in 2019. It is an ISO 9001:2015 certified institution earning the Star Status by DBT- Government of India, DST- FIST Zero Level funded institution and DST CURIE funded institution (Women’s PG Colleges).

The institution is identified as a mentor institution under UGC Paramarsh scheme and it has successfully guided 6 mentee institutions out of which two institutions appeared for the first cycle and have been awarded and the third one is on the preparation of SSR. Our institution is identified as one of the Best Performing Institutions by MHRD under VISAKA programme.

The institution with her 28 years of autonomous status has encompassed technological advancements, emerging as the Centre of Excellence under IBM career education. Students have access to industry standard software in various critical fields like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Business Analytics, Cloud Technology and so on. 

The faculty members are well-experienced observing tradition and modern pedagogy in teaching-learning and embraces distinctive research pattern in opening a wider spectrum of research and inculcates the spirit towards academic pursuits. The institution has a good record of research projects and grants from various academic bodies.

The curricular aspects of the programmes were brought under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) as early as 2004 and it has fine-tuned them with the adoption of Outcome Based Education since 2017. The Research and Development Centre of our college has 6 research programmes offering FT/PT M.Phil & Ph.D programmes. The value-added courses provide platform to the learners in moulding their entrepreneurial skills and leadership skills.

One of our students had the enviable honour of being one of the six ‘Odhuvars’ in the opening ceremony of the new Indian Parliament in 2023. The laurels brought by the students are laudable in academics, sports and NCC. The institution provides financial aid to the students besides facilitating to receive government and other scholarships. The students who excel in sports at international, national and state level are identified and encouraged by the management to pursue their tertiary education both at UG and PG level by waiving off their tuition fee, providing free boarding and lodging and by deploying proper coaches. The NCC cadets of our institution have been consistently taking part in RD parade and ID parade held in Delhi. Our students have been successfully placed in multi-national companies like Wipro, TCS, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra with the median scale of 3 lakhs per annum.

Our alumnae carry our banner aloft in all walks of life emerging as scientists in NASA, Member of Parliament, entrepreneurs and academicians both in national and international fronts. The services rendered through ‘Community Connect – Unleashed’ and ‘Building Bridges to Society’ speak of the engagement of our students to society. As a result, the villagers are benefitted through various schemes propounded by State and Central governments..
