Department of Mathematics
  • Introduction
    The department of Mathematics was started as one of the earliest departments of the college in the year 1954. It was upgraded as PG department in 1985 and elevated as research department(M.Phil in 2003 and Ph.D in 2022). Right from its inception the department has been striving to set high standards of teaching and learning adhering to the goals of the college. The department maintains a record of good service with the vision of the Founder to establish a strong mathematical foundation among the young learners.

      To develop mathematical thinking and apply it to solve problems with confidence by providing rich and diverse curriculum and to expand the frontiers of mathematical knowledge through innovative teaching –learning techniques.
      To assess the individual needs of the students and educate them accordingly so that they bloom as resourceful mathematicians.
      To provide an ambience for originality and creativity that leads to quality research and collaborative work.
      To inculcate social responsibility among students and to involve them in community related activities.

      Graduates of B.Sc. Mathematics after 4 years of their graduation will
    • PEO 1: Logical, analytical and problem solving skills
    • PEO 2: Able to comprehend and construct mathematical proofs independently.
    • PEO 3: Able to explore the nuances of mathematical techniques and apply them to various domains.
    • PEO 4: Will have confidence in one’s own mathematical skills and knowledge.
    • PEO 5: Will be either readily employable, engage in higher learning or indulge in research and responsible citizens.
      • Graduates of M.Sc. Mathematics after 4 years of their graduation will

      On completion of B.Sc. Mathematics, students will able to
    • PO1: possess the ability to analyse and synthesize the concepts in mathematics and related subjects and to use appropriate mathematical techniques, skills and modern computing tools necessary for problem solving.
    • PO2: comprehend and solve real world problems and also develop creativity through practical components of the curriculum.
    • PO3: engage in independent learning to become freelance mathematics tutors, professionals or researchers.
    • PO4: develop technical and creative skills.
    • PO5: promote and uphold Self-Discipline, Leadership Qualities, Secular Outlook, National Integration and Civic Responsibility.

    • Thrust areas of Research : Fuzzy and Nano Topology, Differential Equations, Difference and Integral Equations, Graph Theory, Linear Algebra, Optimization Techniques.
    • UG and PG Students attend Summer Internships / Summer Research/ Summer Training Programme in Mathematics hosted by Institutions like IISER – Trivendrum, Gitam University – Bangalore, IIT - Madras, TIFR – Bengaluru, Online Foundation Course in Mathematics under the aegis of the MTTS Trust funded by the National Board for Higher Mathematics
    • Faculty members published research articles in the peer reviewed journals.
    • Linkage: Bannari Amman Institute to conduct curriculum related activities such Seminars, Workshops, Hands on Training, Internships .
    • Experiential Learning: Industrial visits, Hands on Training, Internship, Laboratory experience
    • Organising National/International Seminars/Workshops/ Conferences on Current developments in different branches of Mathematics
    • Encouraging the students to participate in the Inter-collegiate events conducted by other institutions.

    • National Science Day is celebrated every year apart from the days of mathematical importance like Ramanujan Day, e – day, Pi Day, Pythagorean Day.
