The distinct feature of Sri GVG Visalakshi College is the mentor system which was introduced from its inception. This is one of the most effective systems functioning in the institution that bridges the gap between the students and teaching community. Each faculty member is assigned a group of students as their wards. The interactions between them help the wards to have improved record of their activities, bothin academic & personal fronts.
The teacher collects personal information from her ward. The teacher meets her wards informally outside of class study hours. The rules and regulations, welfare measures and various scholarships available and the ways to go about them are explained to the wards.Slow learners with difficulties in understanding and learning the subjects at the pace are paid individual attention, guided and trained by the mentor on the better ways of learning. Sharing of their own problems with their mentors’ serve a sigh of healthy relief to the students, thus enabling them peacefully concentrate on their studies. If any problem is spotted, all kind of support, guidance and care will be given. Ward counseling takes place in a time bound manner.
If necessary the parents are called and counselling is provided to them too. Remedial coaching classes are conducted for underperformers and their performances are discussed during the ward meetings.

In addition to Mentor – Ward system, the Students Counseling Cell acts as an outlet to many students who are mentally stressed or depressed. The students confide to the Cell members and find soothing solutions to end their problems. As most of the students belong to the adolescent age and are fresh from the school, this cell is highly active in embracing the students and setting them in their right tracks. The most beneficiary are the Hostel students who stay a long way from home for want of good education. In addition to Mentor – Ward system, the Students Counseling Cell acts as an outlet to many students who are mentally stressed or depressed.
