Introduction

Inauguration of Women’s Studies Centre


The Women’s Studies Centre of Sri G.V.G Visalakshi College for Women was inaugurated on 08.03.2010. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr.Mrs.M.Kuruvammal, Professor of Tamil, Indian Languages and Rural Arts, Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram.

Vision

Women’s Studies Centre aims to promote study, training and consultancy on various issues related to women with an objective to support women from all strata of society especially from rural areas in Udumalpet to understand their inner potentials, use that to create a more gender- just society.

Mission

The centre aims to be a perfect blend of scholastic and action programmes related to gender sensitization, women’s empowerment in capacity building.
The centre intends to initiate and implement appropriate curriculum development, teaching techniques, research, advocacy and action.
To stimulate and augment knowledge about gender, race, ethnicity and class as well as sexual identity and cultural influences on women’s lives.
Carry out programmes and projects that would help in formulation of policy and development of action plans for government and NGO sectors.
Provides advisory and consultancy services on associated issues to the public especially for the persons with disabilities, individual life and different organizations within and outside areas.
